Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario will host the first ACM-W Regional Celebration to be held in Canada on 22-23 October 2010. The conference is called the Ontario Celebration
of Women In Computing (ONCWIC). Wendy Powley, a research associate at Queen’s and an organizer of ONCWIC, told me:
This conference is modeled after the very successful Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing (GHC) conference, but more specifically after the ACM-W Regional Celebrations. We are very excited to be hosting the very first Regional Celebration to be held in Canada, with the goal of uniting female computing professionals within the province of Ontario. ONCWIC will provide students (undergraduate and graduate), faculty and professionals with a chance to network, form mentorships and collaborations, and to share ideas.
Wendy and the rest of the ONCWIC organizing committee are seeking industry sponsors to defray travel and other costs so that as many female undergraduate and graduate computing students in Ontario can attend.
Readers interested in sponsoring this worthy initiative can download the sponsorship package available on the ONCWIC website.
