About Chris Kleisath

Picture of Chris KleisathI am currently the Senior Director of Engineering for SQL Anywhere. I have responsibilities for several areas of our engineering team, including Engineering Product Management, Documentation, Localization, QA, Build; Release, and Sustaining Engineering.

I have worked for Sybase iAnywhere, and its predecessor companies for 25 years. Throughout the course of my career, I have spoken at numerous conferences and visited with many, many customers.

Our goal in the SQL Anywhere engineering team for some time has been to create the best database server meeting the requirements of real application developers. Our customers create applications that are distributed around the world to tens of millions of users, most of whom don’t realize they are using a database server at all. We take great pride in providing the database behind many well-known applications, without anyone knowing that we are there. The downside of this is, of course, that no-one knows we’re there. :-) Too often, our sales team will get questions from potential customers wondering why they have never heard of us…..well, its because we have done our job so well!

I am excited to be able to use this blog to share my experiences and observations on the development and use of database software, and the software business in general.
